A Lisbon night tour costs €22 for a 105-minute walk and up to €150 for a fado dinner with a panoramic drive. This guide compares six, and checks which start times are really dark in summer, when the sun sets after 21:00.

What You Should Know

  • Lisbon night tours are two to four hour evening outings: a storytelling walk, an e-bike ride, a private drive between lit viewpoints, or a fado dinner with a short tour attached.
  • Most start between 18:00 and 19:00. With sunset around 21:05 in late June, only departures from about 21:30 to 22:00 are genuinely dark then; 19:00 and 20:00 starts keep substantial daylight.
  • Prices run from €22 for the night walk to €150 for a fado dinner with pickup. Private tours quote per person for two, so solo travellers pay roughly double.
  • Every option ends up on foot in Alfama's steep, cobbled lanes, even the driven tours, and more climbing than expected is the most repeated surprise across these tours' reviews.

Lisbon by Night Tours

A Lisbon by night tour can mean four quite different evenings: a 105-minute storytelling walk from Rossio into Alfama, a sunset ride on an electric bike, a private drive between lit viewpoints, or a fado dinner with a panoramic loop of the city. They cost €22 to €150 per person. This page compares six of them on the things the listings blur: what time it actually gets dark, what a private tour costs for your group size, and which restaurant you end up in.

What these tours share is the city after sundown: Castelo de São Jorge floodlit on its hill, the Rua Augusta arch lit above Praça do Comércio, and the 25 de Abril bridge strung across the Tagus. What separates them is how you move between those sights. Here is the whole page in one table.

This page deliberately leaves out evenings on the river and bar crawls. Our Lisbon sunset cruise guide covers the Tagus sailings, and the Lisbon pub crawl guide covers the 22:00 Bairro Alto crawls. For daytime walks, see our Lisbon walking tour guide. For a fado evening on its own, see our fado in Lisbon guide, and our is Lisbon safe guide covers the late-night advice for Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré. What to Expect on a Lisbon Night Tour

  1. 0117:30 to 22:00

    Pickup or meeting point

The private tours collect you from your accommodation. The walks meet at Rossio or inside Rossio station, and the bike tour meets by the river near Santa Apolónia. The Rossio station meeting point is two floors up inside the station, and is the one people most often miss.

  2. 02First 30 min

    A viewpoint at dusk

Most routes climb early to a miradouro such as São Pedro de Alcântara or Senhora do Monte to catch the last light over the rooftops, the castle and the Tagus.

  3. 03About 1 hr

    The lit city

Praça do Comércio and the Rua Augusta arch, the Pombaline grid of the Baixa, and on the driving tours, the riverfront from MAAT to Parque das Nações with the 25 de Abril bridge lit behind you.

  4. 04About 1 hr 30

    Alfama on foot

The part everyone remembers: narrow stepped lanes, laundry overhead, fado drifting out of doorways. It is also the darkest and most uneven stretch of the evening.

  5. 05Optional

    Drinks, dinner or fado

The jeep tour pours tastings between stops. The two fado tours sit down to dinner for two to three hours of food and live music. What typically happens is that the walk or drive overruns, so eat something beforehand: dinner often arrives after 22:00.

  6. 062 to 4 hrs

    Drop-off or finish

The private tours return you to your door, or leave you in a bar district if you ask. The Shadowing walk ends in Alfama, and the bike tour returns to its start by the river.

A typical Lisbon night tour lasts two to three hours. It links a hilltop viewpoint at dusk, the lit monuments of the Baixa and riverfront, and a stretch of Alfama on foot, then ends with either a drop-off or a table at a fado house. The timeline below follows that general shape. The exact stops vary by operator, and the private tours adjust the route as you go.

Our take (the driving tours still involve stairs): Several complaints on this page come from people who booked a tour with a vehicle and did not expect to climb. On the fado walk, guests describe cobbles, repeated flights of stairs and one climb of seven flights, and some in their party could not start; guides have found lifts for older guests where they exist. Alfama's lanes are largely closed to vehicles, so every tour that shows it to you does so on foot. If mobility is a concern, message the operator before booking and ask how many steps the route involves.

1
Best private night tour€57.21 each for 2 · 2 hrs · private

Olá Viva Lisboa!: Lisbon by Night

The tour whose name matches what most people are searching for, and the one that delivers it most reliably. Two private hours with pickup, leaving at 17:30, 20:00 or 22:00, and the 22:00 slot is the only nightly departure on this page that is dark all year. Reviewers describe a mix of driving and short walks, with several stops at viewpoints over the city, the modern riverside architecture lit up at night, and a walk through Alfama's lanes. Reviews describe a route that pairs the modern riverside with the old town rather than repeating a day tour, a guide who takes your group's photos at the stops, and restaurant tips sent afterwards. It is by car: guests describe being collected in the guide's private car, and the tuk tuk some mention is the operator's separate day tour. The price works like a car hire, about €115 whether one or four of you go, rising to €172.62 for six. For groups of three or four it is the strongest value here: the whole car costs less than two seats on the fado dinner.

Shadowing Tours: The Dark Unholy Secrets

The best Lisbon night walking tour on this page, and the cheapest option. It meets at 19:00 on the south side of Rossio, where the guide waits with a lantern. Its first real stop is the National Theatre, which stands where the Estaus Palace, the Inquisition's headquarters, once stood, then works through the old centre's darker history before ending in a narrow Alfama street. 47 of its 50 reviews are five stars. Guests who expected ghost stories consistently say it is a history walk about the Inquisition rather than a scare, and they rate it highly anyway. One pattern we noticed: reviewers keep mentioning more walking and hills than 105 minutes suggests, and long standing stops, so wear real shoes and bring a layer. Groups are often small, and several guests ended up alone with the guide. At 19:00 in June, you finish before sunset.

Best with fado€54.90 · 4 hrs · max 10

Lisbon Destination Tours: Fado Experience

The most-reviewed tour here by a wide margin, at 388. An hour's walk through Mouraria and Alfama, where fado began, then dinner with wine and a live show in a traditional fado house. The walk and the singers get consistent praise. The dinner divides people: 27 reviews are one or two stars, and those complaints are about a cramped room and an ordinary set menu rather than the guide. Three things the listing does not tell you. The meeting point is the hostel reception two floors up inside Rossio station, with no sign at street level, and several groups have missed the walk looking for it outside. The walk often runs well past its hour, so dinner can arrive after 22:00. And the evening combines bookings into groups of 16 or more. Choose this if the music is the main reason you are booking the evening and everyone can manage the stairs. Look elsewhere if anyone in your party struggles with steps, because the walk is the only way to the table. It does not run on Saturdays, and when too few people book it has been cancelled at short notice.

rent a fun: Lisbon By Night Bike Tour

Three hours on a pedal-assist e-bike from the riverside near Santa Apolónia, climbing to the sunset at the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint, then riding on through Bairro Alto, down the steep Bica street and up to Parque Eduardo VII as the lights come on. The motor takes the hills. Helmet, lights and water are included. It is built as a sunset-into-night ride, which is exactly what you get in spring and autumn. It covers the most ground in one evening, and reviewers regularly describe groups of three to six, some ending up as the only riders; a couple say it ran an hour over. In December the whole ride is in the dark, and in July you get very little night. Bookings need a minimum of two people, and it runs in all weather. One thing to weigh: only two of its 20 reviews are from the past year, and most date from 2017 to 2019, so the recent track record is thin.

Best for drinks and viewsFrom €52.50 each for 2 · 2 to 4 hrs

GoJoe Experiences: Vintage Jeep Night Tour

A private open-top vintage jeep that collects you anywhere in the city, with departures every half hour until 23:00. The listed stops range widely: Parque das Nações and MAAT on the river, Cais do Ginjal across the water in Almada, and Senhora do Monte above the old town. Every option includes Portuguese drink tastings from a menu of about 20, and the food options add two shared dishes. The €52.50 from-price is the two-hour drinks-only option at a promotional rate that ends on 27 October 2026. It is €75 at the normal rate, and the four-hour food version is €175 each for two. Reviews rate the guide highly and describe the route being tailored to skip what you have already seen. One March 2026 guest said there was no food tasting and the drinks came from a cool box in the jeep, so confirm exactly which option you have booked. Only 15 reviews so far.

Best door-to-door fado dinner€150 each for 2 to 3 · 4 hrs · pickup

Genuine Tours: Fado Show, Dinner and Night Tour

Pickup at 19:00, a panoramic drive through the historic centre, and dinner with a live show in a small restaurant that reviewers describe as not touristy. The listing names the National Pantheon, the Fado Museum and Alfama. The singers get the best reviews and the service gets the worst: groups seated last describe waiting a long time for food, and a table at the back with little view of the singers. It is the lowest-rated tour here at 4.4, with 14 of its 75 reviews at three stars or below. The main tradeoff is the "night tour" itself: reviewers consistently describe a short drive with one or two viewpoint stops on the way to dinner, which at 19:00 in summer happens before dark. This makes the most sense when hotel pickup and drop-off matter more than sightseeing, because you pay nearly three times as much as for the fado walk.

Two kinds of night out are missing from this list on purpose. Tagus sunset sailings and DJ boat parties are compared in our sunset cruise and boat party guides, and the Bairro Alto bar crawls, which also start at 22:00, have their own pub crawl guide.

When Is It Actually Dark? Start Times vs Sunset

This is the most useful check you can make before booking a Lisbon night tour, and no listing makes it for you. Lisbon sits at the western edge of its time zone, so summer evenings stay light very late. The sun sets at about 21:05 in late June, 19:25 at the end of September, and 17:20 in December, with another half hour of dusk after that. A tour that starts at 19:00 is a night tour in winter. In July, it finishes in daylight.

None of this makes a summer booking a mistake. A 19:00 walk in July gives you the golden hour on the tiled façades, which many people prefer. It is just a different product from the floodlit castle and dark lanes in most listing photos. If darkness is the point, in summer the choice is really between our top pick at 22:00 and a late jeep slot.

Our take (the shoulder months are the sweet spot): From late September to mid October, and again in March, a 19:00 start lands close to sunset, so you get the colour at the first viewpoint and the lights for the rest of the tour. If your dates are flexible, that is the best window for the walking and bike tours. It is also when the hills are cool enough to enjoy.

How Much Does a Lisbon Night Tour Cost?

A Lisbon night tour costs between €22 and €150 per person. A guided night walk is €22 and an e-bike tour €39. A private driven tour is around €52 to €57 each for two, and a fado dinner combined with a tour runs from €54.90 to €150. On the private tours, the per-person price falls sharply as your group grows.

Budget€22 to €39 per person

The 105-minute storytelling walk at €22, or €19 each for four or more, and the three-hour e-bike ride at €39 with the bike, helmet and lights included. No food, and you make your own way to the start.

Mid-range€52.50 to €57.21 per person for two

The private tours: two hours with pickup, either with a guide and no extras, or in the vintage jeep with drink tastings. The €54.90 fado walk sits in this band too, and it is the only one that includes dinner and a show. For four people, the private night tour drops to €28.77 each.

Premium€122.50 to €150 per person

Four hours with food: the vintage jeep's longest option (€122.50 each for two on the current promotion, €175 normally), or the fado dinner with hotel pickup at €150 each for two to three, €235 for a solo traveller.

The sweet spot is the private night tour for two to four people, where you get a vehicle, a guide and a late slot for about €115 in total. Solo travellers get better value from the €22 walk, which costs a fifth as much.

Is a Lisbon Night Tour Worth It?

Yes, for most visitors, provided you match the format and the departure time to what you want. A night tour gives you the viewpoints and the old town's history without the daytime heat and crowds, and the floodlit castle and riverfront look nothing like the daytime city. It is weakest in one case: a 19:00 start in July, which is really a sunset tour.

  • Worth it for groups. The private night tour costs about €115 in total for one to four people, with pickup, which makes it cheaper per head than any other option here once three or four of you share it.
  • Worth it on a budget. The €22 walk is the cheapest guided evening in the city, and guests who booked it on their first night say it helped them get their bearings for the rest of the trip.
  • Worth it for fado, with a caveat. The fado evenings combine sightseeing, dinner and live music in one booking. The music is the reliable part; the dinner is where the low scores come from.
  • Check the season. In late June and July, only departures from about 21:30 to 22:00 are genuinely dark. From November to February, any evening start is.
  • Check the stairs. Every option includes Alfama on foot, including the driven tours. If anyone in your party has limited mobility, ask the operator how many steps the route involves before booking.

Skip it if you have already walked Alfama by day and only want the views. The Senhora do Monte and Portas do Sol viewpoints are public and free, and busy well into the evening. What a tour adds after dark is the history, the route between them, and a lift back.

Lisbon Night Tour Combos: Sunset, Dinner and the Bars

Night tours pair naturally with the rest of a Lisbon evening, because nothing on this page runs past midnight. In summer, the most efficient order is a sunset sailing on the Tagus first, then a 22:00 night tour. Our Lisbon sunset cruise guide compares the two-hour sailings that finish around dusk. If you would rather eat than listen to fado, the evening food walks in our Lisbon food tour guide cover the same neighbourhoods with more to eat.

The private tours will leave you in Bairro Alto or Cais do Sodré if you ask, which lines up with the 22:00 bar crawls in our Lisbon pub crawl guide. And if you liked the viewpoints but want them in daylight, the Lisbon tuk tuk tour guide covers the same hills by day, including the 2025 street restrictions that changed where tuk tuks can go.

Our Take

Across these six tours, guests rate the guide and the views far above everything else, and almost every low score traces back to a restaurant. On the fado evenings, the dinner is the part to set expectations for, not the music.

Tips for Your Lisbon Night Tour

  • Match the slot to the month. In late June and July, choose a departure around 21:30 to 22:00 or later if you want genuine darkness; 19:00 and 20:00 departures still have substantial daylight. From November to February, any start after 18:00 is fully dark.
  • Price private tours by group size, not by the headline. The listed from-price is for two people. Solo travellers pay about double. Groups of four pay about half per head.
  • Find the fado walk's meeting point before the day. It is the hostel reception on the second floor inside Rossio station, not the street outside. From what we've seen in reviews, this is where most of that tour's one-star evenings begin: groups waiting at street level while the walk leaves without them.
  • Wear shoes with real grip. Calçada portuguesa is polished limestone, and it is at its most slippery in the evening damp and the low light of Alfama's lanes.
  • Carry a few euros in small notes. The walk excludes tips and water, the jeep excludes gratuities, and the fado dinners charge for anything beyond the set menu and drinks.
  • Do not leave a fado evening for your last night. The fado walk does not run on Saturdays, and when too few people book it has been cancelled as little as 40 minutes before the start.
  • Eat a snack before a fado tour. On both fado evenings, the walk or drive regularly overruns and dinner lands after 22:00. Keep quiet during the sets, since the performers expect silence, and expect to be offered a CD at your table afterwards.
  • Solo on the e-bike tour? You cannot book it. It needs a minimum of two per booking. The walk and the private tour both take solo bookings.
  • Visiting in June? Our Lisbon in June guide covers the latest sunsets of the year, around 21:00, and the Santo António night of 12 June, the busiest night of the year in Alfama.
  • Visiting in December? Our Lisbon in December guide covers the Christmas lights, which are best seen after about 17:30, and the free New Year's Eve party on Praça do Comércio.
  • Check the drinking age on the jeep. GoJoe serves alcohol only to guests aged 21 and over; younger guests receive soft drinks.

You do not need a tour to see the view. The Senhora do Monte and Portas do Sol viewpoints are public and busy well into the evening, and our Lisbon walking tour guide maps a self-guided Alfama route that works at dusk. What a tour adds after dark is the story and someone who knows the way back down.

How We Selected These Tours

The Vacation in Portugal team looked for evening tours that actually run after sunset in Lisbon, and judged them on start time, group size, what the price covers for different party sizes, and how evenly the reviews are spread. We read the full star distribution behind every rating, not just the average. We left out tours with only a handful of reviews, and tours whose "night" element is really a boat or a bar. The final six cover a private drive, a history walk, an e-bike ride, a drinks tour, and two fado dinners at very different prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Lisbon night tour?+

Between €22 and €150 per person. A guided night walk costs €22 and an electric bike night tour €39. Private driven tours start at about €52 to €57 each for two, and a fado dinner combined with a tour costs €54.90 to €150. On private tours, the per-person price drops as your group grows, to €28.77 each for four on our top pick.

What time do night tours start in Lisbon?+

Most start between 18:00 and 19:00, and the private tours offer later slots: 20:00 and 22:00 on our top pick, and half-hourly up to 23:00 on the vintage jeep. Because Lisbon's sun sets around 21:05 in late June, choose a departure around 21:30 to 22:00 or later in late June and July if you want genuine darkness; 19:00 and 20:00 departures still have substantial daylight. From November to February, any start after 18:00 is fully dark.

Is there a night walking tour in Lisbon?+

Yes. The best-rated one is Shadowing Tours' Dark Unholy Secrets walk: 105 minutes from Rossio into Alfama at 19:00 daily, for €22, focused on the Inquisition and the city's darker history, with up to 14 people. The Lisbon Destination Tours fado evening also starts with an hour's walk through Mouraria and Alfama before dinner and a fado show.

Is Lisbon safe to walk at night?+

Central Lisbon is generally safe in the evening, and the main viewpoints and squares stay busy well after dark. The bigger risk for most visitors is the ground rather than crime: polished limestone cobbles and steep, dimly lit stairs in Alfama. Wear shoes with grip, and watch your belongings in crowds at the viewpoints and on tram 28.

What is the best night tour in Lisbon?+

It depends on the evening you want. For a private night tour, Olá Viva Lisboa!'s Lisbon by Night is two hours with pickup for up to six, rated 5.0 from 63 reviews, and its 22:00 departure is dark even in midsummer. For a budget walking tour, the €22 Shadowing Tours walk. For fado, the €54.90 fado walk and dinner is the most-reviewed option.

Can you combine a night tour with a fado show in Lisbon?+

Yes, and two of the tours here are built around exactly that. Lisbon Destination Tours walks you through Mouraria and Alfama before dinner and live fado, for €54.90. Genuine Tours collects you from your hotel for a panoramic drive and a fado dinner, for €150 each for two. Reviews praise the music on both. The food and service get more mixed reviews, and on the pickup version the sightseeing is a short drive with one or two stops.

Are Lisbon night tours suitable for children?+

Most are. The walking tour accepts children from four, the private tour and the fado evenings accept all ages, and the vintage jeep takes children from three. The e-bike tour is 12 and over. Bear in mind that the fado dinners run until about 23:00, and that every tour includes some uneven walking.
