June is Lisbon's festival month: warm, dry and bright, with the longest evenings of the year and the Santo António street parties on the night of 12 June. Here is what the month is really like, and what it costs.

What You Should Know

  • June is warm and dry: highs around 26°C, lows around 17°C, rain on about 2 days and roughly 322 hours of sunshine. Sunset is around 21:00 all month, the latest of the year.
  • Santo António is the month's big event. The night of 12 to 13 June brings the Marchas Populares parade down Avenida da Liberdade and street parties with grilled sardines across the old neighbourhoods; 13 June is Lisbon's municipal holiday.
  • Prices in our sample were high but steady: weeknight medians of about €195 to €203 and Saturdays €203 to €211 for a central four-star room. Santo António and Portugal Day on 10 June were not priced above other June dates.
  • The sea averages about 18.6°C, warming but still cool, and June can bring hot spells: IPMA's 1991 to 2020 record for June is 40.2°C. Plan the hills for mornings and evenings.

ℹ️ These are our editorial assessments of how June conditions affect each part of a trip, not review scores. Weather figures are climate normals from IPMA, Portugal's weather service, for 1991 to 2020.

💰 June 2027 hotel rates in our sample (central Lisbon, 4-star):
Weeknights: median ~€195–203 (middle half roughly €153–249) · Saturdays: median ~€203–211 (middle half roughly €164–257)
From a sample of 125 to 133 four-star hotels within 2 km of Baixa, quoted on 2 October 2026 for one night for two adults, room only, before taxes, on eleven June 2027 dates including Portugal Day and the eve of Santo António. Lisbon's tourist tax of €4 per person per night (maximum seven nights) is added on top. Rates change daily, so check live prices for your dates.

June is when Lisbon feels most like itself. The weather is warm and reliably dry, the evenings are the longest of the year, and in the middle of the month the whole city turns out for Santo António, with paper garlands across the streets of Alfama, Mouraria and Bica and the smell of grilled sardines everywhere. It is also the first month when the beaches are properly part of a trip.

The honest tradeoffs are price, crowds and the occasional hot spell. Rates in our sample were in the €195 to €211 range all month, and the night of 12 June packs the old neighbourhoods. We would book June for the festival and the evenings, choose weeknights where possible, and plan the steepest walking for the cooler ends of the day.

Temperature

IPMA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals put the June average high at about 26°C and the low at about 17°C, about three degrees warmer than May. Most days are warm rather than hot, but heatwaves do happen: the highest June temperature in the IPMA record for Lisbon is 40.2°C.

Rain Pattern

June averages only about 14 mm of rain across roughly 2 days, a sharp drop from May. Most June days are dry.

Daylight and Outdoor Conditions

Sunrise sits around 06:11 to 06:14 all month, and sunset moves from about 20:54 on 1 June to about 21:05 by the end of the month, with the longest day on 21 June. With around 322 hours of sunshine, June evenings are the longest of the year, which is exactly when the Santo António parties come alive.

Lisbon Crowds and Prices in June

June prices in our sample were the flattest of any month so far. The festival dates were not priced above the rest of the month; the only consistent difference was weeknights against Saturdays.

1 to 9 June: early summer

Weeknight medians were about €196 to €200 and the first Saturday about €205. The Book Fair continues at Parque Eduardo VII until 13 June.

10 to 13 June: Portugal Day and Santo António

Portugal Day, Thursday 10 June, is a national holiday, and 13 June is Lisbon's municipal holiday for Santo António, which falls on a Sunday in 2027. Our sample's medians were about €195 on 10 June, €203 on Friday 11 June and €205 on Saturday 12 June, in line with the rest of the month. Crowds are a different matter: the night of 12 June is the busiest night of the year in Alfama, Mouraria and along Avenida da Liberdade.

14 to 30 June: high summer begins

Weeknights held at about €195 to €196 and Saturdays at €203 to €211. Most people do not realise that, in our sample, Santo António cost no more than any other June weekend; if your dates are flexible within the month, the festival is effectively free to include. Remember the tourist tax of €4 per person per night on top of the room rate.

Santo António and the Festas de Lisboa

Santo António, Lisbon's most beloved saint, gives the city its biggest party. The celebrations peak on the night of 12 to 13 June, which Visit Lisboa describes as light, colour and music in a state of permanent street partying, winding down only early the next morning.

The Marchas Populares

On the night of 12 June, the traditional neighbourhoods parade down Avenida da Liberdade in the Marchas Populares, each in its own costumes, music and choreography. Expect large crowds along the avenue, so arrive early if you want a view from the front.

The arraiais

Across the old neighbourhoods, and above all in Alfama, Mouraria and Bica, the streets fill with arraiais: open-air parties with paper garlands, music, drinks and grilled sardines on bread. They run through the festival weeks and peak on the night of 12 June. Most guests find that the best approach is simply to wander from one to the next.

Practicalities

Expect packed streets, loud music late into the night, and some road closures around the parade. Keep an eye on your bag in the crowds, and if you are staying in Alfama, ask your hotel how the night affects access and noise. Our is Lisbon safe guide covers the advice for crowded nights out.

What June is uniquely good for

Santo António is the reason to choose June over any other summer month. The Marchas on Avenida da Liberdade and the arraiais in the old neighbourhoods are the most distinctively Lisbon experience of the year, and the long evenings make it easy to combine a full day of sightseeing with a night at the parties.

In our view, June suits anyone who wants summer weather with a festival attached, and who can work around the midday heat. If it is your first time, our best things to do in Lisbon guide is the place to start, and our fado in Lisbon guide compares the houses for an early-evening show.

What June Isn't Good For

June's downsides are mostly the price of its popularity.

A budget trip

Central four-star medians in our sample were around €195 to €211 a night, about 70% above mid-January. If cost matters more than festival weather, our Lisbon in February guide covers the low season.

A quiet night in the old town

Around Santo António, Alfama, Mouraria and Bica are loud and packed late into the night. If you want sleep, stay in a quieter area such as Príncipe Real or Avenidas Novas and visit the parties.

Midday walking on hot days

Most June days are warm rather than hot, but heatwaves do happen. On hot days, climb the hills in the morning or evening and keep the middle of the day for museums, the river or the beach. Our Lisbon surf lessons guide covers the beaches that make the best hot-day escape.

More June-Friendly Activities

  • The last days of the Book Fair: the Feira do Livro at Parque Eduardo VII runs until 13 June.
  • Sardines on bread: the essential Santo António snack, sold at every arraial.
  • A beach day by train: the suburban line from Cais do Sodré follows the coast to Carcavelos and Cascais.
  • Sunset at the miradouros: with sunset around 21:00, Senhora do Monte and São Pedro de Alcântara are a late-evening plan.

Our Take

Based on the rates we sampled, June 2027 is unusual: the festival weekend was priced like any other June weekend, with Saturday 12 June at about €205 against €203 to €211 on other Saturdays. If you are coming in June anyway, there is no price reason not to be there for Santo António.

Tips for Visiting Lisbon in June

  • Be in Lisbon for the night of 12 June: in our sample it cost no more than other June weekends.
  • Arrive early for the Marchas: the crowds along Avenida da Liberdade are large, and a front-row view takes time to find.
  • Choose your base with the festival in mind: Alfama is in the thick of it, which is great for the parties and hard for sleep.
  • Check opening hours on 10 and 13 June: Portugal Day and Lisbon's Santo António holiday.
  • Walk early and late on hot days: keep the steep climbs for the cooler hours.
  • Book Sintra's timed tickets ahead: summer is busy, and the palaces use timed entry.
  • Plan Belém for a day other than Monday: Jerónimos Monastery is closed on Mondays.
  • Budget for the tourist tax: Lisbon adds €4 per person per night, up to seven nights, on top of the room rate.
  • Visiting at a different time of year? Our Lisbon in May guide covers the month before, with similar rates, fewer crowds and the start of the Book Fair, and our Lisbon in July guide covers the month after, with peak beach season, NOS Alive and lower late-July rates.

How We Put This Guide Together

Weather figures are climate normals rather than a forecast: average high and low, rainfall and days with rain for June in Lisbon, taken from IPMA, Portugal's national weather service, for the 1991 to 2020 period. Sunshine hours are station averages for 1990 to 2019 from the German Weather Service (DWD), along with the station's June temperature record. Sea temperatures are long-term averages from seatemperature.org. Sunrise and sunset times are calculated for Lisbon for June 2027. Hotel prices come from our own sample, not a market average: rates for 125 to 133 four-star hotels within 2 km of Baixa, quoted on 2 October 2026 for one night for two adults, room only, before taxes, on eleven June 2027 dates covering weekdays, Saturdays, Portugal Day and the eve of Santo António. Rates move daily and differ by property and lead time, so check live prices for your dates. Santo António details come from Visit Lisboa, the city's tourism board; official 2027 programme details had not been published when we checked. Public holidays follow the 2027 Portuguese calendar and Lisbon's municipal holiday. The Book Fair dates were announced by the organisers, APEL. Tour prices, ratings, review counts, departure times and June schedules were read from the operator listings on 2 October 2026; one sailing listing had not yet published June times, and all may change. The favourable, mixed and challenging assessments are our own editorial judgement of one question only: how much do June conditions help or hinder each part of a trip? They weigh rain, temperature, daylight, sea conditions, crowds and seasonal events. They are not quality ratings for the operators and are not derived from reviews.
