Sunset Boat Party

Lisbon boat parties look interchangeable at €20 to €45, but two of the most-booked are not open bar at all. We compare five sunset cruises on drinks, duration and age limits.

What You Should Know

  • "Open bar" is the single biggest thing to check, because two of these five include only a welcome drink or two drinks total despite sitting in the same search results at similar prices.
  • Four of the five are strictly 18 and over, and ID may be checked at boarding. Only the €20 sail-and-view tour accepts all ages, which makes it the sole option for families.
  • Most run two hours and are built around sunset, so the departure time shifts across the year: roughly 9pm in midsummer and closer to 6pm in winter. Confirm your slot when booking rather than assuming an evening start.
  • The €45 four-hour option is a different product from the rest: a sailing boat with resident DJs and club entry to an afterparty afterwards. It is a full night out rather than a sunset cruise.
  • Departures can run late in peak season. Guests are asked to arrive 20 minutes early, and reviews from July and August regularly describe waiting another 30 to 60 minutes beyond that, so build slack into your evening rather than booking a restaurant immediately afterwards.
  • On the busiest boat, access to the top deck is limited by staff a few people at a time. It is the most common complaint in recent reviews, and it matters because the sunset views and the seating are up there. Head up early rather than after the dancing starts.

Boat Parties in Lisbon

The best Lisbon boat party depends on whether you actually want an open bar. Three of the five cruises we compared include unlimited drinks; the cheapest and the most expensive include only one or two. Prices run €20 to €45, most cruises are 18+, and nearly all last around two hours.

What you are booking is a sunset cruise on the Tagus with a DJ and a route past the city's postcard landmarks: Praça do Comércio, the 25 de Abril bridge, Cristo Rei and the Torre de Belém. These are among the most-booked evening activities in Lisbon, and the largest operator has logged more than 13,000 reviews.

One thing worth settling before you book: these are busy boats with a dancefloor, and guests who wanted a quiet evening on the water say so bluntly afterwards. If that is what you are after, we'd point you at the €20 sail rather than any of the open bar cruises, or at the Tagus sailings in our Lisbon wine tour guide, or our Lisbon food tour guide if you would rather spend the evening eating, that serve wine rather than run a dancefloor. Our Lisbon sunset cruise guide compares the quieter sailings on the same stretch of river, our Lisbon dolphin watching guide covers the Sado estuary boats, and our Lisbon pub crawl guide is the land version of the same night. For daytime sightseeing on the river rather than a party, our Lisbon boat tours guide compares the cruises and private charters, and our best things to do in Lisbon guide covers everything on land.

No queues at the bar and a DJ who read the crowd

This was the funniest two hours of our lives. Do not judge a book by its cover as we questioned everything as we approached the boat. The drinks queues were none existent and the choice of drinks was great. The DJ was playing great songs and catered towards the different audience. Would definitely recommend and would go again.

Easy place to meet people as a solo traveller

The views were amazing, the DJ too, meet so many nice people there. Lots of wine and lots of dancing. An amazing experience overall for my last night in Lisbon

Worth the wait, but the departure ran late

This activity was a highlight of my trip. So worth it. The music was good, the bar was well organized and the duration was perfect. The only thing that was less convenient is that we were told to be there 20 mins in advance just to be told that we were leaving an hour later afterall. We ended up walking around and it was worth the wait. Plus the sunset was stunning!

What to Expect on a Lisbon Boat Party

A typical two-hour sunset boat party on the Tagus, from boarding to return.

  1. 0120 min before

    Arrive at the marina

Boarding is at one of two Tagus docks: the Estação Fluvial Sul e Sueste beside Praça do Comércio, or Doca de Santo Amaro under the 25 de Abril bridge. Bring ID: the 18+ cruises may check it.

  2. 02Boarding

Welcome drink and the bar opens

On the open-bar cruises the first drink is handed over as you step aboard and the bar runs for the whole trip. The DJ is usually already playing.

  3. 03First 30 min

    Out past Praça do Comércio

The boat pulls away from the waterfront with the old town and Comércio Square behind it, which is the best stretch for photos before the dancing starts properly.

  4. 04Midway

Under the 25 de Abril bridge

The turning point on most routes, with Cristo Rei on the south bank and the bridge overhead. This is where the sunset lands if your departure is timed right.

  5. 05Final stretch

    Belém and back

Some routes push on toward the Torre de Belém before looping back. By now the deck is a dancefloor and the light is going.

  6. 06Return

    Back at the marina

You dock where you boarded, usually around 11pm in midsummer. On the four-hour cruise this is where the group moves on to the included club afterparty.

The two-hour cruises follow a consistent shape: board at a marina on the Tagus, sail west past the city front toward the 25 de Abril bridge and Belém, then loop back as the light goes. The DJ plays throughout and the bar opens as soon as you are aboard.

Most people don't realise the larger boats are effectively two experiences stacked on top of each other. The lower deck is the dancefloor and where the full bar sits; the upper deck is where the views, the seating and the quieter conversations are. Guests who work that out early tend to describe a better evening than those who spend it queueing between the two.

What reviews consistently suggest (the top deck is rationed): On the largest party boat, staff cap how many people are on the upper deck at any one time. Guests describe waiting to get up there, occasionally for a long stretch, while the sunset is happening above them. It is the single most common criticism in recent reviews, and the fix is simple: go up early rather than after the dancefloor fills.

What reviews consistently suggest (departures run late): You are asked to arrive 20 minutes early, and in July and August guests routinely describe waiting another 30 to 60 minutes on top of that before boarding. Treat the listed departure as approximate, and do not book anything straight afterwards.

What to know before you book (sunset moves): These are sold as sunset cruises, but Lisbon's sunset shifts by about three hours across the year, from close to 9pm in June to around 6pm in December. The departure time on your booking is what determines whether you actually sail into the sunset, so check it rather than assuming an evening slot.

Best Lisbon Boat Parties

Five cruises ranked by who each one suits. We'd sort them by what is actually in the glass rather than by headline price, because that is where the €20 and the €45 options diverge most sharply from the rest.

1
Our top pick€40 · 2 hrs

Sunset Boat Party Cruise with DJ and Open Bar

A genuinely unlimited open bar of beer, wine, sangria and soft drinks across two hours, with a welcome drink as you board and a live DJ. The review count is the real signal here: over 13,000, against a few hundred for most rivals, which is the largest sample of any boat party in Lisbon. Reviews repeatedly mention a DJ who adapts to the crowd. We think the tradeoff is the scale: this is the busiest boat here, staff ration access to the top deck where the views and seating are, and the bar is slow for the first hour before it clears. Strictly 18+.

2
Best for a smaller boat€35 · 2 hrs

Sunset DJ Party Cruise with Pizza & Drinks

The only cruise here with a published capacity, and at around 40 people it is a fraction of the larger party boats. Unlimited sangria, wine, beer, soft drinks and coffee, plus a pizza buffet, which makes it the one option that doubles as dinner. The boat is fully glass-enclosed, so it holds up if the weather turns. Departs Doca de Santo Amaro, Gate #3. 18+.

3
Best for a late start€35 · 2 hrs

Disco Night Cruise with DJ and Open Bar

The same unlimited open bar formula as our top pick, five euros cheaper, but sailing after dark rather than at sunset. Worth choosing if you want the city lit up rather than the sunset, or if a later slot fits your evening better. Leaves from Estação Fluvial Sul e Sueste on Comércio Square, which is the easiest departure point to find. 18+.

4
Best for a full night out€45 · 4 hrs

Sunset Boat Party Cruise with Music & Drinks

A different product from the rest: four hours aboard the sailing boat Príncipe Perfeito with resident DJs playing house, techno and EDM, and entry to a Lisbon club afterparty included. We think the tradeoff is drinks: despite the highest price here, only a welcome drink and one long drink are included, so budget for a bar tab. Choose it for the length and the afterparty, not for the open bar. 18+.

5
Best for all ages and budgets€20 · 2 hrs

Sunset Boat Tour with Music and Drinks

Half the price of everything else and the only tour here that accepts all ages, so we'd shortlist this for families and for anyone visiting outside summer. It is a sunset sail with music rather than a party: one welcome drink, no DJ set, no dancefloor, though there is still dancing by the end. The boat itself is a curiosity, the Évora, built in Germany from repurposed WWI tank plate and the first diesel ship in Portugal. It runs year-round and carries blankets for the colder months, which none of the party boats mention. The highest rating on the list at 4.6.

Check availability

If the open bar is the reason you are booking, the €40 top pick and the two €35 cruises are the three that genuinely deliver it. The €20 and €45 options are good tours for other reasons, but neither is an open-bar party.

What "Open Bar" Actually Means on a Lisbon Boat Party

This is where operators really differ. All five appear under the same boat party searches and all five mention drinks, but only the three mid-priced cruises pour unlimited. The €45 four-hour ticket includes a welcome drink plus one long drink, and the €20 sail includes a single welcome drink, so the gap between price and drinks is widest at the top of the range, not the bottom.

Where the open bar is real, expect beer, wine, sangria and soft drinks. Recent guests on the top pick add two caveats: the bar is busiest in the first hour and clears noticeably after that, and drinks come one cup per person, so you cannot fetch a round for a group. The selection is narrow and the quality basic, which is the honest tradeoff for unlimited pours at this price.

Most guests find the value calculation flips once you account for this. We'd rate the €40 unlimited ticket above the €45 two-drink one for almost anyone planning to drink at all: three or four drinks across two hours already clears the gap, and after that the open bar is free money. Below that, the €20 sail gives you the same river and the same sunset for half the price.

Where Lisbon Boat Parties Depart From

The five cruises leave from three points along the Tagus, and the two main ones sit about three kilometres apart. Based on how these tours run in practice, this is worth more attention than it sounds: guests regularly mention struggling to find the meeting point, and on the largest boat there is a further walk from the ticket booth to the berth once you arrive. Check the map against your booking confirmation before you set out.

Estação Fluvial Sul e Sueste is the most central, on Avenida Infante Dom Henrique right beside Praça do Comércio, and is a short walk from Terreiro do Paço and Baixa-Chiado metro. Doca de Santo Amaro sits under the 25 de Abril bridge in Alcântara, which is a tram or taxi ride from the centre rather than a walk.

How Much Does a Lisbon Boat Party Cost?

Lisbon boat parties run €20 to €45 per person. The biggest difference is that price does not track drinks at all: the cheapest ticket and the most expensive one are both drink-limited, while the three in the middle are the unlimited open bar options. What matters more than the headline price is whether you will drink enough to clear the gap between them.

Budget€20

The two-hour sunset sail, all ages, and the highest rated on the list at 4.6. A scenic evening on the river rather than a party.

Sweet spot€35 to €40

All three genuine open bar cruises sit here. Two hours of unlimited beer, wine and sangria, a live DJ, and a sunset or after-dark route. The €35 pizza cruise adds a buffet and caps at about 40 people; the €40 top pick has the review history.

Premium€45

Four hours on a sailing boat with resident DJs and club entry afterwards. You are paying for length and the afterparty, not for drinks, so factor in a bar tab on top.

If you are not drinking much at all, the €20 sail delivers the same views and the same sunset for half the money. Everything above it is priced for the bar rather than the boat.

Our Take

The thing that separates these cruises is not the boat or the DJ, it is whether the open bar is real. Three of the five pour unlimited for the whole trip; the cheapest and the most expensive tickets on this page both include only a drink or two. Check that column before you compare anything else.

Tips for Your Lisbon Boat Party

  • Read the drinks line before the price. Two of these five are not open bar despite the naming, and one of them is the most expensive ticket here.
  • Bring ID. Four of the five cruises are strictly 18+ and may check at boarding. Only the €20 sunset sail takes all ages.
  • Check your actual departure time against sunset. Lisbon sunset swings from about 9pm in June to about 6pm in December, so a "sunset cruise" booked in winter is an evening cruise in the dark.
  • Do not schedule anything tight afterwards. Boarding can slip in peak season, and recent guests describe waiting up to an hour beyond the listed departure.
  • Go up to the top deck early. On the busiest boat, staff limit how many people are up there at once, and guests who leave it until the dancing starts report waiting a long time or missing the deck entirely. That is where the sunset views and most of the seating are.
  • Know where the wine is. On the top pick, wine is poured downstairs while the upper deck carries beer, so if you have a preference, factor that into where you settle.
  • Expect one cup at a time. The open bar is genuinely unlimited but served one drink per person, so you cannot carry a round back to friends.
  • Bring a layer, and secure anything loose. The Tagus is exposed and cools quickly once the sun drops, even in August. It is also consistently windy: guests advise tying hair back and skipping long skirts. The glass-enclosed pizza cruise is the exception on both counts.
  • Solo travellers do well on the bigger boats. The crowd skews to groups in their twenties and thirties, and solo guests consistently mention how easy it is to fall in with people. Worth adding for anyone put off by that: guests in their forties, fifties and sixties repeatedly report that the mixed playlist and wide age range meant it never felt like the wrong room.
  • Visiting in July? Our Lisbon in July guide covers the sunniest month of the year, with sunset around 21:00 and NOS Alive bringing big crowds to the riverside from 8 to 10 July.
  • Confirm the marina, not just the neighbourhood. These cruises leave from two different places about three kilometres apart: the Estação Fluvial Sul e Sueste on the Comércio Square waterfront, and Doca de Santo Amaro under the 25 de Abril bridge. Check which one your booking names before you set off.

How We Selected These Tours

Our Vacation in Portugal team compared the bookable Lisbon boat parties on the things that genuinely differ between them: what is actually included at the bar, how long you are on the water, the minimum age, and where the boat leaves from. We cross-checked each listing against the operators' own pages and independent resellers, and we flag any field the operator does not publish rather than filling the gap ourselves. None of these operators publishes a maximum group size except the pizza cruise, and several do not publish a fixed departure point, so those cells are marked not specified instead of estimated. We weighted review volume heavily. A 4.5 rating across more than 13,000 reviews is a far stronger signal than the same rating across 211, and where two cruises were otherwise close, the larger sample won. We also kept two tours on the list that are not open bar parties at all, because both rank highly in the same searches and readers deserve to know the difference before booking rather than after boarding.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a boat party in Lisbon?+

Between €20 and €45 per person. The three cruises with a genuine unlimited open bar cost €35 to €40 for two hours. Price alone is a poor guide here, because the cheapest and most expensive tickets are both drink-limited.

Do Lisbon boat parties really have an unlimited open bar?+

Some do, some do not, and the listings can look similar. Of the five compared here, three pour unlimited beer, wine, sangria and soft drinks for the full trip. The other two include only a welcome drink, or a welcome drink plus one long drink across four hours. Always read the inclusions line rather than the tour title.

Is there an age limit for Lisbon boat parties?+

Four of the five cruises here are strictly 18 and over, and ID may be checked when you board. Only the €20 sunset boat tour accepts all ages, which makes it the only realistic option if you are travelling with children or teenagers.

How long is a Lisbon boat party?+

Most run two hours, which several guests describe as the right length for a cruise of this kind. The exception is the €45 sailing boat party, which runs four hours and then continues into an included club afterparty on land.

Where do Lisbon boat parties depart from?+

Two Tagus marinas cover all five. The Estação Fluvial Sul e Sueste on Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, beside Praça do Comércio, handles the top pick and the disco night cruise. Doca de Santo Amaro, under the 25 de Abril bridge, covers the pizza cruise and the four-hour sailing party. The €20 sunset sail leaves from Sardinha do Tejo. The two docks are about three kilometres apart, so check which one your booking names.

What should I bring on a Lisbon boat party?+

ID for the 18+ cruises, and a layer. The Tagus is exposed and it cools quickly once the sun drops, which surprises people even in August on the open-deck boats. The glass-enclosed pizza cruise is the one option where weather is not a factor.

Are Lisbon boat parties good for solo travellers?+

Yes, particularly the larger cruises. The crowd skews toward groups in their twenties and thirties, and solo guests regularly describe how easily they ended up in company. The four-hour option with the club afterparty extends that further, since the group carries on together after docking.

Can everyone go on the top deck of a Lisbon boat party?+

Not always at once. On the largest party boat, staff limit how many people are on the upper deck at a time, and it is the most common complaint in recent reviews. Some guests describe waiting a long stretch to get up there, occasionally missing the sunset. Go up early rather than after the dancefloor fills. It is also worth knowing that on that boat wine is poured downstairs while the top deck carries beer.

Are Lisbon boat parties only for young people?+

The crowd skews to groups roughly 18 to 35, but in practice the range is wider than that suggests. Guests in their forties, fifties and sixties regularly report that the playlist covers older hits as well as current ones and that they never felt out of place. If you want a genuinely all-ages evening, the €20 sunset sail is the one that accepts under-18s.

Do the boats leave on time?+

Not always. You are asked to arrive about twenty minutes early, but boarding can slip in peak season and recent guests describe waiting up to an hour beyond the scheduled departure. Treat the listed time as approximate and avoid booking anything immediately afterwards.
